- Free Range - 

In free-range systems, hens are housed in sheds with access to an outdoor range.

- Barn -

In barn systems hens are free to roam within a shed which may have vertical levels.

The floor may be based on litter and/or other material such as slats or wire mesh.
 

- Cage -

Hens in these systems are housed continually in cages of small groups within a shed. They enjoy unlimited access to feed, water, ideal environmental conditions and a familiar social group.
